UAW Turns to Honda Safety in Transplant
Drive
June 27,2002 Auto union leaders are keeping up the drumfire in a
re-energized drive to organize unorganized transplant workers. A New
York Times story Wednesday centered on the UAW’s attempt to leverage
a high injury rate at Honda’s assembly plants in mid-Ohio into
ammunition that could help its cause in a future representation election.

House Narrowly Approves Motion to Begin Conference on Fast
Track Legislation
June 27th Late yesterday afternoon the House narrowly passed the
Thomas motion and self-executing rule to go to conference on the fast
track legislation. The vote was 216-215.

identified because of its Opel Vectra twin. The all-new sedan will be
joined by a five-door extended version based on the Opel Signum. Powered
by General Motor’s new HFV V-6 engines, the new sedans will also have a
five-speed automatic transmission. The Malibu will be built in Fairfax,

GM keeping Linden longer
June 19th--The Wall Street Journal says strong
demand for GM’s compact trucks and Blazer sport-ute will keep its
Linden, N.J. plant running for a few more quarters past its original
closing date. GM had announced the plant would shut permanently in the
third quarter of 2004; however the Journal reports that the new
closure date is mid-2005. GM also extended the life of its Baltimore van
plant through summer 2005, noting it expected demand to increase for the
vehicles. |

Wis., Plant Rolls Out Its Last GM Medium-Duty Truck
June 26,2002-It's a bittersweet day at General
Motors Janesville assembly plant: the last of the big trucks will
roll off the line. Today is the final day for workers to assemble medium-duty trucks at

Corporation donated the materials to build four full-sized extended cab
pickup trucks at the Fort Wayne facility. These trucks will be
