“Drive Your Corvette to Work Day”

Nothing makes the heart pump harder or the mouth smile broader than a bright warm summer day, especially if the scene includes America’s favorite sports car—the Chevrolet Corvette. Call it mid-life crisis or just a plain old love of the automobile and driving with the wind blowing in your face, many have purchased Corvettes for occasional joy rides or even as an everyday mode of transportation. 

In commemoration of the “National Drive Your Corvette to Work Day”, many of the employees of the Ft. Wayne Assembly Plant pulled off the covers, polished up the hoods, and drove their “toy” to work on Friday June 28th. As part of the festivities, a picture taking session was arranged during the 1st shift lunch period in the west parking lot of Paint/Body, which had been reserved for the special occasion. 

Pictures were also taken between shifts for this years get together. For the first time we were able to see some second shifters showing it off. Our first year it was on days only shift that the get together happened this year it was different. 

All five generations of Corvettes were represented—from a 1962 light blue hardtop (C1), a hopped up, loaded-for-bear 1963 white split window (C2), a 1981 cherry red 4-speed T-top (C3), an assortment of eight C4’s ranging from ’90 to ’94, and a brand new 2001 bright red coupe (C5). Not to be outdone we had a beautiful 2002 50th anniversary Vette on hand as well. This group loves all ages of the Corvette, but we know they are all waiting to see what is done with the C6 in 2004.

We all spent a while carefully inspecting each other’s prized possession and swapping stories. Maybe this get-together will spawn future activities of this enthusiastic group of car owners. Many other Corvette owners were unable to participate and were missed. But by looking at the picture you know these owners are proud!
