Engine trouble may mean recall for new Toyota Tundras

Owners of Toyota Motor Corp.'s new Tundra pickup are reporting engine failures, which may mean a costly setback for the biggest U.S. vehicle launch in the company's history, The Detroit New reported Thursday.

Tundras equipped with 5.7-liter V-8s may be recalled for engine replacement, a company spokesman said, according to the report.
Company spokesman Bill Kwong said Toyota realized in February there was a problem with the camshafts delivered by a supplier for the 5.7-liter engine, and the automaker ordered the necessary changes to production.

However, Toyota has seen 20 cases of engine failure in trucks with the 5.7-liter engine, though no injuries have been reported, according to the newspaper.

Toyota is now studying how many of the 30,000 5.7-liter engines it built are affected.
