2008 Veterans' Committee "Stand-Down" Photos
Our UAW Local 2209 Veterans Committee was on hand to help
with the Veterans' Stand Down. (12th annual) this is an opportunity for
our Veterans who need help locally to be served.
A U.S. Veteran in need, from any branch of
service, is allowed to receive help. Once cleared by the Trustees
office they can have a free confidential health screening with a doctor.
They can visit with a nurse and have a series of tests run to check
their current blood pressure, Blood sugar level, and check on their
current immunization levels. As a Veteran, they receive a sack of
clothing, boots, jackets, rain gear, a sleeping bag, blankets, socks,
and more.
Our Local 2209 Veterans committee members
stepped in to help with the distribution of these items. In addition we had some members of our
Community Services Committee help as well.
Our community has a large White, Black, Hispanic
and Myanmar population who were waiting to be served by this very
important program. We thank our Union's standing committee members for
their support and time to help our community and those people we share
it with.
