Learning Styles


Did you know that there are many different ways that people learn? Your children probably use many different learning styles but are stronger in some than others. Becoming aware of those strengths, and sharing them with your children's teachers is a step toward a great start to the new school year. Look at your children and think about all the ways they learn.
 

Musical/Auditory Learners

Spatial/Visual Learners

• Follow oral directions easily

• May play an instrument

• Enjoy singing, humming, etc.

• Like to listen to stories

• Find it easier to say things than to write them

• Follow written instructions easily

• Enjoy seeing movies, performances, and art events

• Like organized spaces

• Are good with maps, charts, etc.

Interpersonal Learners

Bodily/Kinesthetic Learners

• Enjoy group activities

• Like to study with friends

• Have good relationships with others

• Are sensitive to other's feelings

• Tend to be leaders

• Enjoy taking things apart

• Are comfortable touching people and things

• Like hands on activities like sewing, sports, dancing, etc.

• May have trouble sitting still for long periods of time

Logical/Mathematical Learners

Linguistic Learners

•Enjoy planning and are organized

•Enjoy science, math, computers

•Enjoy problem solving

•Enjoy strategy games like chess

• Are good communicators

• Love to read and write

• Play word games

• Spell well

Intrapersonal Learners

The Perfect Study Corner

• Think things through carefully

• Need alone time

• May keep a diary or journal

• Ask a lot of "why" and "what if questions

• Is quiet

• Has flat space to work on

• Has good lighting

• Includes an assignment calendar

• Has organized school supplies available including:  pens,  pencils, erasers, ruler, glue, tape, paper,  binders, markers, crayons, calculator

• Has a set of reference books and a computer  with Internet access if possible
